As a young kid and into my teenage years, I felt weird. Something didn’t feel right, and I was convinced it was just me. Why was I always worried? Why, when the minor thing happened internally, I was screaming? Why did I think so much?

I’ll never forget the one time I was walking and lightly kicked a rock, and it went a nearby yard. When I say lightly kicked, I should be saying, “tapped” I tapped the rock with my foot, and it went into the edge of the yard. At that moment, all that was going through my mind was, “what if someone came out of the house and thought I was kicking rocks into their yard”?????? THE HORROR.

Thankfully, I can joke about it now, but the anxiety was real and quite scary back then.

What in the world is anxiety, though?

According to the American Psychological Association, “anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure.”
